How dumb can one be to walk behind a windowless, running van and a trailer?

Im not going to victim blame here, but this is exactly why I tell my girls to walk around the trailer when its hitched up instead of going over the coupling. I t’ s just a bad place and you should only be there if you have to be.

t gives me the heebie
-jeebies even when it’s just me in there - I’m always keeping my escape route

T
otally hear you. At the same time I was 20 once and remember how stupid I was..

I mean, I’ve done stupid things too, but that’s walking directly in front a tractor trailer at a light-stupid.

Te chnically, she was dragged under the trailer, not the van.

Such a bad idea. Nothing good came of this.

It’s the same reason nobody should ever cross over the couplings on a stopped train. I was at a conference at the San D iego Convention center. There’s a set of double tracks for the commuter trains and another parallel track for larger trains. People were constantly getting impatient and crossing between the cars when the trains were stopped. I saw one girl nearly fall under the train when it moved as she was jumping over. A guy was nearly hit by a train on the second track which he didn’t see because of the train stopped on the first track.
This just confirmed to me that some people just make stupid decisions.

I was sad reading about it earlier this week, imagine what
the driver is going through as well
.

This is a sad story. The van belonged to a band that was on tour. Some friends of mine were touring with them as an opening act (traveling in a separate van). They were in northern California when they found out that the rest of the tour had been (understandably) canceled. It took them almost a week to drive back to the east coast. I'm sure that the driver of the van feels terrible about this.

I at first thought the driver was a piece of shit (like all drunk drivers), but this is another story in the growing pile that teach me to wait for more info before judging others.

So obviously this was not a good move, but that van does seem to have plenty of windows?

I attended a factory that was bisected by rails. Often trains would cut off one side of the facility to the other.
If you EVER crossed between the couplings of a train, lifetime ban. If you were an employee? you fired.

Wait, what? She walked between the van and the trailer that was hitched to the van, while the van was stopped at a traffic light? I have momentarily lost my ability to even.
Still somewhat surprising the driver didn’t notice anything different for that long, but I guess with a big enough van, enough road noise, and her being out of view, its possible.

Y
ou know who I do not see fooling around while they are near
trains? Rail guys. I figure if they spend that much time around them and are still vigilant there is a good
reason.

12:30am Hastings Street in
downtown Vancouver. There’s probably a lot going on, and a lot of distractions.

people will ride a black bicycle down an unlit/poorly lit street, wearing a black shirt, black pants, and black cap, and still expect drivers to see them.
